How to Create the Life You Really Want
Author: Thomas Murrell

Australians are loosing their laidback, carefree reputation, as we continue to work longer hours, exercise less and neglect our leisure and family time. Recent research indicates that 67 per cent of Australian professionals spend at least 20 hours a week thinking about their job when they should be relaxing, and less than half take their entitled annual leave.

Massage Your Mind!--A Spontaneous Woo to You
Author: Maya Talisman Frost

As I was driving to a friend’s house recently, I passed the Dublin Pub, a local watering hole known for its live music. On the reader board, one band’s name caught my eye: Spontaneous Woo. Hmmm, I thought. What a cool concept. There is nothing quite like letting out a joyous, spontaneous “WOO!” when things are going our way. We might personalize our woo, making it come out as “YESSSS!” or “Sweeeeeet” or even “Woo-HOO!” No matter what elicits this response, we know it means something good has happened.

New Beginnings: Ten Tips for Starting Over
Author: Natasha J. Rosewood

This is the first day of the rest of your life. And although this is a cliché, it is true that we don’t have to wait for New Year or a birthday or the last Friday of the month to decide on a new direction for our lives. According to the Buddhists, life means suffering, in the ego mind at least. Until we aspire to become detached from and connected to each other at the same time, we tend to suffer from the illusion of separation and aloneness. Many fears, though they appear as realities, ultimately fade back into the ether. And in the end we realize that it is our minds that are making it all up. Most of it is just an illusion. “When we remember we are all mad, the mysteries of life disappear and life stands explained,” Mark Twain wrote in Notebook, (1898.)

Who Needs Heroes?
Author: graham and julie

When we were talking the other day we started to think about our heroes when we were young. After we had discussed the usual film star and sports stars that we idolised I remembered Derek. Derek was a couple of years ahead of me in school and he had everything; he always got straight ‘A’s’ and was formidable on the football field as well as one of the fastest over 100 metres. What’s more he didn’t appear to work at it. When the rest of us were ‘slaving’ away at our homework or sweating buckets trying to impress on the football field or athletics track he just turned up and got on with it. A natural, was how one of our teachers described him.

Is This It...?
Author: Russell Wickens

For most of us the turbulence and drama of a mid life crisis take place over a number of years, hallmarked by those nagging questions of “Is this it? Is this all there is to look forward to?” To others, our friends and family, the external signs are all too obvious: relationships breaking down, drama-fuelled affairs, workplace-related dissatisfactions and their own concomitant frictions. Internally though, the restive anger and confusion are symptoms of a deeper, more profound anxiety. We may be reaching a watershed that marks the end of growing up and the start of growing old, but do we understand it? We often sense intuitively the momentousness of the change we are caught up in. However, the sheer size and weight of its implications usually engender a fear that is paralysing. All the security that accompanies our life plans is gone because there is no longer a life plan. The comforting linear progression of life, job, family, career has been erased like a chalk mark from a blackboard, leaving in its place a

THE TOP 10 EASY, PRACTICAL WAYS TO IMPROVE YOUR DIET, YOUR HEALTH AND YOUR LIFE
Author: Philip Humbert

Because I believe diet and exercise are so important, I'm often frustrated with the recommendations I receive. Nutrition and natural health ideas are often so negative (don't eat this, watch out for that) or so rigorous (be sure to eat some raw, natural, organically grown vegetable I've never heard of) or so complicated, I end up ignoring them. And yet, I know diet is critical to my health and well-being, so I made up my own rules. My objective was simplicity, so all of you with greater will-power and more discipline, cut me some slack, OK? For the rest of us, I hope you find them useful.

Is there a Monster in your Closet?
Author: Marije Miller

The world is a mirror. There are many books written on the belief that we are what we see and experience around us. Every person we meet is here for a specific reason, whether we understand that reason or not. They give us the opportunity to get a little further on our personal path of self-discovery and enlightenment. Sometimes the message comes through loud and clear; for instance we may be hearing the same thing from three different and unrelated sources. But other times these messages, or lessons if you will, are offered to us in disguise. What of those people we immediately have an adverse reaction to? The aversion you feel for them is a sign that there is something to be learned here for you.

They are not things you do on the outside, such as exercising your body (which is always a good thing to do!) but ways of thinking and being on the inside. These have to do with your attitude and your intent.

Who has the most fun and why?
Author: Ted Schredd

All kinds of research has been done to see if certain kinds of people have more fun than others. The results? No particular kind of person is prone to more fun. There are lots of happy poor people and plenty of dissatisfied rich people. Race, political or religious beliefs, boy or girl, it just doesn’t seem to matter. First-world country or third-world country will have an effect, but there are plenty of happy people without three TVs and twenty pairs of shoes. It doesn’t matter who you are, how intelligent you are or where you live, everyone has the ability and is entitled to a life full of joy and happiness.

Searching for the Truth
Author: Gene Simmons

It’s confusing isn’t it? Anyone who has been traveling the road toward their own personal self improvement or spiritual enlightenment can quickly attest to the fact that it’s not a particularly easy journey. We quickly find that our projected well-defined path is suddenly obscured by the glare of thousands of spotlights – all sweeping our pitiful little road and beckoning to us. “This way!” “Follow me!” “I am the true way!” “Yo Butt-Head, over here!”

Needs Versus Wants
Author: Ramona Creel

How often do the words "I need" come out of your mouth, as it relates to your business? When you run your own company, it's easy to think that the only way to succeed is to be moving forward with your expenses -- the newest technology, a broader circle of professionals providing you services, involvement in more and more costly marketing efforts, etc. And it's particularly difficult to resist the urge when you know you can generally take a tax DEDUCTION for any business expenses. But did you ever stop to think how many of those requests are actually needs, and how many are simply wants?

Author: Dr. Rita Louise

Is it the dawning of the Age of Aquarius? For years, predictions have indicated that humanity is readying itself for a golden age, a so called new age that is right around the corner just waiting to roll in. According to these forecasts, the air we breath will be clean and our environment pure. Hunger, starvation and disease will be eliminated. Most importantly, we will finally experience the peace and harmony we all desire and we will live in the spirit of brotherly love.

Where's Your Value?
Author: Leanne Hoagland-Smith, M.S.

The simple action of writing the every day grocery quietly demonstrates how we truly value our lives and inspire future actions. Each week, many of us spend 10 to 30 minutes or more writing down the weekly future grocery purchases, clipping coupons and checking advertisements. Unfortunately, sometimes, we forget to bring the list and end up with additional purchases, spending more money than originally anticipated and probably having to return to buy the missed items. All of these actions have wasted money, time and energy and more importantly have contributed to increased stress levels as well as negative, unhappy feelings about ourselves. Just think about the last time you forgot your list and how did you feel about yourself? Were those thoughts fleeting or did they stay with you a while?

So Who Gives a *#@&! if You Swear?
Author: James V. O'Connor

Cursing, cussing, swearing -- whatever you prefer to call it -- is generally considered part of our contemporary language. Most people do it, some people don't like it, but no one much thinks about it. The fact is, swearing does much more damage to our relationships, our image and our own peace of mind that we image. Maybe everyone swears, but no one swears everywhere. You might say swearing is harmless, but why do you restrain yourself in certain situations? You are acknowledging that it is not perfectly okay. For example, maybe you don't swear in front of kids. Why not? Is cursing an adult privilige? Actually, swearing is juvenile! Adults should have the vocabulary, maturity and emotional control to avoid using trashy language.

This publication, Paradigm Shifts, may be the most efficient, easiest manual for self-improvement available. It reveals the basis of the current, world-wide anti-civilization, from which all unnatural problems arise, and compares all aspects of that current civilization with a natural civilization, in which conscious beings live free of all the artificial boundaries.

Life is a continuous series of choices, and with each choice we make, we feed either our positive or negative tendencies. At one time, almost without our awareness, we might choose to be insensitive and strike out at a store clerk or loved one; and at another time, despite our own personal challenges, we find the strength within to comfort a struggling co-worker with a cheerful smile and a much appreciated word of encouragement. Not one of us is perfect, and the best we can do is to make wise choices a conscious and regular part of our lives.

20 Ways to Find, Sustain and Share Happiness -
Author: Megan McDonough

The Dalai Lama says that we all share one common aspiration: we all want to be happy; no one wants to suffer. This universal desire binds us together. At some point the realization dawns that no matter how big the paycheck is, no matter how many degrees we get, no matter how nice the house and the white picket fence is, none of it can assure happiness.

Go Beyond Fear
Author: Steve Errey

I used to work in the corporate arena, traveling around as a project management consultant. I went into companies at all levels of seniority and had to engage them in the right way to ensure that there was rapport, respect and trust. I haven’t been inside an office for around three years now, and now it feels strange to think about being in that environment. When an opportunity came up to talk to BBC Worldwide about coaching and career development part of me said ‘Go, Go, Go!’ while another part said, ‘Blimey Steve, you haven’t done anything like this in ages, what if you can’t do it anymore?’. I noticed that some fear was creeping in and that if I didn’t do something it could easily hold me back. I remembered Nancy’s simple exercise and asked myself the question, ‘What would I do if I wasn’t afraid?’ I wrote down some answers,

7 Ways to Get the Most Out of Your Vacations

Brighter Future? Sounds Good!
Author: Adam Khan

A branch of psychology called neurolinguistic programming has made an interesting and useful discovery: You can change the way you imagine or remember things without changing what you imagine, and it will change your feelings. For example, if a visual memory makes you sad whenever you think about it, you can make that mental picture smaller and dimmer, and when you do, the memory won't make you as sad. Since you haven't changed the content of the memory, you haven't lost any information. You've simply made it less painful.

Once again the winter season is near. Cool temperatures, shorter and darker days, and for some even snow. Along with the winter season often comes cold and flu season but also one other ailment that often goes undiagnosed or even unnoticed; the winter blues or seasonal affective disorder (SADS). Women are more likely to suffer from this depression-like disorder than men and it can be stress levels that contribute to this. Whether it is everyday stresses or the holiday season stresses it is important to remember that it is not the event itself that is stressful but ‘how’ we handle the event.

Action speaks louder than words. Thoughts are seeds and the source of action. No activity is possible without first being conceived as a thought form.

Happiness
Author: Ariel & Shya Kane

Happiness is a very popular theme these days and we guess it always has been. From the time we were children, we have been taught that it is better to be happy. Everyone knows it is better to be happy or joyous than sad or angry or upset or unsure of what to do with one's life. So people try, they try to be happy. In this country we pursue "The American Dream". We have been taught that acquiring certain possessions will bring satisfaction and so will landing the right job. And of course, many believe that finding that perfect someone, our soul mate, will bring bliss eternal. Obviously this isn't true.

Conversational Negative Self-talk

Most people don't even know they're doing it. Throughout the course of normal conversation, they bombard themselves with negative self-talk. Even people who are aware of the power of their words seem to miss some of the most commonly used derogatory comments that are made towards ourselves in the course of normal conversation. While plotting out goals and dreams we remember to stop ourselves from saying statements like "I can't," "I'm not good enough," or "I'll never be able to pull this off." However, it's the subtle little things that we say while on conversational autopilot that eats away at our self-confidence.

Forgiveness -- Good for the Body and Soul
Author: Linda Simmon

Perhaps the strongest poison to the human spirit and body is the inability to forgive oneself or another person. When I say “forgive” I mean letting go, releasing your anger, bitterness, fear and hurt. Forgiveness is different than saying “I lose” or “I was wrong” and it does not mean that you will ever allow or condone the behavior or injustice to occur again; however, forgiveness is letting go of your own suffering and your own pain and it is an ongoing process.

Forgiveness
Author: Athene Raefiel

Many people believe that they can leave the past behind simply by not thinking about it. The past, the present and the future are all interconnected and one part cannot exist without the others. When we push the past away we begin to stuff our feelings. We become disconnected and fragmented. We no longer give our feelings any validity and stop trusting our feelings. We insulate and isolate unable to deal with emotional situations that happen in our personal lives. We try to use logic to resolve emotional situations and usually fail miserably in this endeavor.

Spring is here at last! The season brings with it an opportunity for continued personal growth, stimulated by a sense of life renewing itself around us. We see growth of every kind reflected in our environment in the spring. Tiny seeds and bulbs blossom into colorful arrays of yellow, purple, and pink flowers and plants and the grass becomes green. Suddenly one day we look at the trees and see soft green leaves. Children seem to leap ahead in growth, outgrowing clothing and changing shoe sizes. One day in the supermarket there are blueberries from central New Jersey, not flown in from California.

Being Present: what Samurai teach us about Multitasking!
Author: Marije Miller

Yesterday, my husband and I saw the movie ‘The Last Samurai’. Usually I don’t watch movies with a lot of violence, because it makes me uncomfortable. But my interest was piqued when I saw an interview with Tom Cruise, who was curiously unable to express the personal effect this movie had on his own life. It had clearly been an experience that had deeply effected him. To see him, usually so articulate, stumble for words made me want to go see the movie.

Desire vs. Happiness, from "Why Freedom"
Author: Jason Junge

Freedom entails responsibility; not just the responsibility of the consequences of our actions, but also the responsibility to use that freedom wisely. Fleeting and comfortable happiness is a seductive temptress that tries to get us to take the easy way toward deriving value from our time, but we have seen that much more can be derived from breadth and depth of experience. As much as we all want to be happy and as much emphasis as society puts on happiness, it is a losing proposition. As Csikszentmihalyi notes, the human ego naturally tends toward a general state of misery, focusing on negative probabilities for the sake of contingency planning, and focusing on negative traits for the sake of betterment. As animals we are better suited for survival if we semi-neurotically focus on what things are wrong and what might go wrong. We basically live with an “itch,” as Schopenhauer coined it, to better our environment and ourselves. Our neurosis creates that by first focusing on the negatives, and then creating the impression.

Are You Hypnotized & Don't Even Know It?
Author: Asoka Selvarajah

When I was at university, an astonishing thing happened one evening. There was a hypnosis show on campus. It was several hours later that night, long after the show had ended. One girl, who had been hypnotized, was found in considerable distress in her room. Nobody knew what the matter was, but the hypnotist was called on the telephone. It seems that the girl was still in a hypnotic trance! Anyway, he said a few words to her over the phone, and all was well.

Are You Heart Smart?
Author: Michelle Casto

You don’t have to be Albert Einsten to be smart, although having a high IQ has been associated with being intelligent. Having a high IQ means that you are “head smart.” If you have a high IQ, you are good with book knowledge, including theories, facts, figures, etc. There is another way to be smart though, and that is called Emotional Intelligence. There is a perfect balance between your head and heart because thought generates emotion which leads to motion (action). A truly smart person has learned how to edit their thoughts (replacing negative thoughts with positive ones) and how to manage his or her emotions. When our thoughts are positive, our feelings are high, and our actions follow suit.

Conditions of Happiness: Happy vs. Unhapy - Do We Have a Choice?
Author: Dr. Annette Colby, RD

Everyone is in the process of seeking greater happiness. We are each involved in the search for feeling good inside our bodies. What may come as a surprise is in the midst of a binge, anorexia, bulimia, or other addiction process, happiness is essentially at the core of what is being sought. The individual is experiencing some feeling of unease in their emotional state and physical body and is attempting to seek an alternative state of feeling better.

Are You Happy? Really?

Achieve Your Dreams- Step by Step (#1)
Author: Patricia J. Crane, Ph.D.

Abraham Lincoln once said, “A person is just about as happy as he/she makes up his/her mind to be.” Too often, people want to achieve something because they think the achievement will make them happy, or others will finally respect them, or they can finally say “I’m OK after all because I did this.” The exact opposite is true. While there are a variety of blocks that may keep people from achieving their dreams, the primary one is looking to something “out there” to validate you as a person and make you happy. Happiness comes from the inside. So the first step to achieving your dreams isn’t an action step at all- it’s a “being” step. You are a human being, and your most important task is to be happy right here, right now.

Achieve Your Dreams Step #2
Author: Patricia J. Crane, Ph.D.

Letting go of limitiations. So now you’re an adult, and you want to follow and achieve your dreams. But all the old limiting experiences still exist inside, telling you all the reasons why you can’t do what you want. You may also have other limitations, like being too aware of other’s opinions, not trusting yourself and Spirit for guidance, or being more concerned with security in life than passion in living. Most of you have probably discovered that “instant transformation” in a week-end doesn’t often happen. The process of understanding and working with those apparent limitations takes time and patience. Imagine that you are weeding the inner garden of yourself, lovingly and patiently releasing the old to plant the new seeds. Step by step, you CAN recognize the beliefs that limit you and change them.

Don't Take Advice From Successful People

Do you know what the problem is with asking successful people for advice? They don't always know why they are successful - but they'll give you all the reasons you want. I once watched an 100-year-old man explain that smoking every day was the secret to his longevity. It would be great to know why he lived so long, but I'm pretty sure we won't learn by asking him.

Don't Speed on the Learning Curve

Life is full of lessons, and those lessons take time to "get." Sometimes we're so distracted by everything else that we don't get it for quite some time. It's not really a problem, as long as we understand that. Unfortunately, it often comes with a lack of patience too. We've become such a Now Generation that we don't even enjoy learning; we just want to know it NOW.

Author: Sulana Stone

The boogeyman lurking in the closet scares the bejesus out of little kids. “Big people” know the imaginary monster from their childhood isn’t real. Yet, adults freeze in their tracks when the same monster pops up on their path in life.

The closer we come to reaching our dreams, the more our monstrous emotions and mind-talk flash their urgent warnings, “Stop! Don’t go any further. You can’t pull it off. You’re not good enough. You’re gonna screw up. Or get hurt. Or die!” When you buy into these threats, you can feel confused. Numb. Scattered. Unfocused. So, ask yourself, “Is what the ego telling me true?” If you don’t challenge the propaganda of the boogeyman, you might quit going after your dreams altogether.
