Be a Wizard on the Telephone!
Author: Ray Jacobs

Are you one of the hundreds of thousands employed to sell ideas/products/services over the phone?

Like to improve your performance by learning some simple basics?

Great! Have this list with you..and DO these things..maybe one or two a day until you master the lot and they become part of your habitual routine. Then teach them to somebody else..and watch what happens!

* As you approach your first call, run back through in your mind the one/two or three calls that gave you most pleasure...either a business or private call.

* As you do this, watch the smile on your face and notice the inner smile that these calls brought you.

* Tell yourself..in a most pleasant tone of voice..that you are "bullet-proof" for the next 10 calls. Put that smile and creative energy into those first ten calls.

* Give yourself an ear massage. Just for a minute or so..and as you do this..just hear yourself being the most sensational listener the World has seen or heard.

* For those first ten calls, pick up on every word, tone, acccent, speed of speech that comes down the phone. Really pay attention and pretend that your ears are 100 times more capable and super sensitive to picking up every sublety of the person at the other end.

* For those first ten calls, be very aware of exactly how close you can get to the tone, tempo, rhythm,of the other person. Be as much in sync in all these areas as you can. Remember, at an unconscious level, we tend to like people who speak like us..in tone, volume, tempo and use of words.

* As you start your telephone session, pay particular attention to your posture. Watch and listen and feel your body, your shoulders ,your breathing, your facial expressions.

* If at all possible, every now and again, stand up, shift your posture into another position. As you do this, notice how you pronounce your words, notice your tone and volume.

If, as you progress, you notice that you are feeling tired, rejected or not as powerful as you know you can be, halt. Shift you physical presence. Close you eyes. Play a song inside your head. Smile at yourself. say to yourself..."these people on the other end of the phone..well..they are just like me. They need to be cheered up..wonder how many people I can get to smile just by hearing me today!"

*When you have the chance, teach somebody else one or two of these simple but tremendously effective techniques. Nothing like sharing some good information to aid in helping yourself.

Just play with the phone calls. Have fun. Just play. Life..after all..is too short to be serious!
