Be Careful What You Put on Your Plate
Author: Russell J. Blake

Recently, my wife and I went to Ryan’s for dinner. I am always amazed at the abundance of food. Yes I guess we are pretty blessed here in America. It’s the richest country in the world. I’m still on a New Year’s resolution kick. I watch what I eat. I was very careful to watch what I put on my plate. I ate only the low fat foods. I had a salad, baked potato and than some fruit for desert. This event illustrated to me the importance not only in placing high quality energizing foods on our plates, but also positive attitudes in life. Every day is an opportunity to place positive events or negative events into our lives. It is usually how we respond to our daily challenges that determine the outcome of all events.

I’ve heard it said that the customer is not always right, but the customer is always the customer. This may or may not be true, but I’ve sometimes found it challenging in my career when a customer is irate. The secret lies in reacting with a solution-oriented personality. If a mistake has been made its best to admit the mistake and not dwell on it, but rather tell the customer, “I’m here to help you. I want you to be happy. That is my goal. Please understand that if we are positive together we will find all the answers! I will do whatever I can to solve this today!”

Many times a customer just wishes to express frustration. In dealing with the public a customer might bring their personal problems into the store and is just looking for a good listener to just listen to their life’s story. We all want someone to listen to us, its human nature.

In placing positive attitudes in our personality, like the healthy foods on our dinner plates we have given ourselves a greater opportunity for success in life and business. There will be times when we will not be at our best, but at least we will have the tools to overcome any and all difficulties. Life is challenges and life is opportunity! Make it a great day and eat your veggies!
