In the Midst of the Rain - The Sun is Shining
Author: Audrina Jones Bunton
It was a drenching rainy and gloomy Saturday in August 2003. My husband and I were traveling to Aberdeen, NC to enjoy a publicly introduced gospel play written by my sister-in-law.
About 40 minutes into the ride, with the torrential rain beating the windshield, I looked up to my right and notice an especially bright and fully rounded sun gleaming in the gray sky. My eyes shifted from the sun to the rain, and back to the sun again. This time, the sun's radiance caused a smile to cover my face as I realized that while keeping my eyes on the sun, the overcast sky and torrential rain became a smaller concern. Suddenly my surroundings brightened, even in the midst of the drenching rain and dark sky.
About 10 minutes more into the ride, my husband looked to the left and noticed an overwhelming colossal rainbow adorning the sky from one end of the rainbow to the other. Talk about seeing the end of the rainbow!
This ride in the rain was an enlightening experience that teaches a life lesson.
From time to time, we are confronted with dark clouds in our lives that seem to overshadow the good in our lives. As we focus only on the dark clouds, we fail to realize that somewhere in the midst of those dark clouds, the sun is also shining.
These dark clouds could perhaps be a bad relationship, an unfulfilling job, or unpromising situation, which overrides the good things in our life that bring us happiness.
For just one moment, take your eyes off the dark clouds -- the turmoil in your life. For just one moment, take your eyes off of that thing that causes your day, your life to be gloomy.
Think about the thing, the person, or the situation in your life that brings you happiness.
Now, find yourself focusing more on those happy things -- and the gloom in your life becomes minuscule.
