Stand Out of Your Own Light!

When Alexander the Great visited Diogenes and asked whether he could do anything for the famed teacher, Diogenes replied, "Only stand out of my light." Perhaps some day we shall know how to heighten creativity. Until then, one of the best things we can do for creative men and women is to stand out of their light. ~John W. Gardner

How many times do you find yourself becoming aggravated because something you are doing has come to a halt or isn't progressing the way want it to? You beat yourself up over not completing the task but seldom stop to think it was because you were standing in your own light, your own way, which blocked you from inspiration and guidance that would enable you to complete it effortlessly.

Think of how many times you stand in another's light unknowingly and block it the same way. Your children for example, the next time you feel their frustration step back out of their light and let them proceed by using their own innovation to get the task done. Watch on the sidelines ready to help by supplying more light and guidance, but remember before you step into their light and block it that the only way they will learn is by letting them try it their own way. Teach them to do things in their own light!

What happens when you are trying to sew, cook, read, or anything else that requires the right amount of light and someone stands in that light? You can't see, right? Of course! That's pretty much how it is when you try to move forward on your path and find yourself at a standstill wondering why things have become dark and bleak. Stand out of your own light so you can see where your path is leading. Get out of your own way and let the innovation flow naturally. Let your light shine and lead the way.

The light forever shines for each of us! We only feel we are in the dark because the light is blocked. Many times we set out to achieve and many times we run into a wall because the light is blocked and by no one other than us. So the next time you find your self at a dead-end, stand aside and let the light shine on the task at hand! You are in for a big surprise when you allow the light to shine on all that you do in life! You can't be a beacon if your light don't shine!
